I relate so much to this story, Jessica. I went into chemical engineering thinking I was going to be making bank after graduating. $80K sounded like a lot to me when I was 18, living in a house with 6 people paying only 300$/month in rent. Quickly, realized that figure would only allow me to pay a minimum payment on my student loan (500$/month) while living in a large metropolitan city. I think that’s why there’s such a side hustle culture growing! We need it! Cost of living is going up and our pay doesn’t really reflect that in most cases. Plus, job security is no longer really a thing unless you work in the government.
